Who are IPAF?
IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) promotes the safe and effective use of powered access worldwide. Set up in 1983, IPAF is a not-for-profit members’ organisation that represents the interests of manufacturers, distributors, users, rental & training companies. It serves as a forum for all active in the world of powered access. IPAF has played a key role in promoting many of the design, safety & testing procedures that are now established in the powered access industry.

IPAF MEWP
The IPAF MEWP Operator Training Course is for anyone who needs to safely and effectively operate a MEWP.
This is the most popular of the IPAF courses we run, with regular 3A & 3B courses run between both our centres (Barry and Port Talbot), with additional dates added to meet demand, as well as on site training available. We also have a 1B Static Boom at our office in Barry that we can offer training on.

  • 1B (Static Boom)
  • 3A (Scissor Lift / Mobile Vertical)
  • 3B (Cherry Picker / Mobile Boom)
  • PAV (Push Around Vehicle)
We do add open dates to our online course calendar, but due to demand and how quickly these change, the calendar is not always up to date, so please do contact the office to check the latest availability.

IPAF Harness
There are three levels of IPAF Harness Training available;
  • Awareness
  • User
  • Inspection

The level you need will depend on what you are doing;

Awareness: This is for someone who needs to understand when a Harness is needed
User: This is for someone who needs to wear a Harness in a MEWP
Inspection: This is for someone who needs to carry out the 6 monthly inspection checks

The duration, structure and overall price will depend on which level you need, you have to complete them in order, so if you needed the Inspection, you first need to do the Awareness then User.

We can include the Awareness & User on our IPAF MEWP courses at an additional cost.

The IPAF Harness courses are all available as instructor led (classroom) courses, with the Awareness also available as an e-learning option.

To find out more information on the IPAF Harness, please contact a member of the team at BTS

IPAF MEWPs for Managers
MEWPs for Managers is aimed at those who plan, supervise or manage work at height with Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).
This course is available instructor led (classroom based) or online via e-learning.

Instructor Led
This is a 1 day classroom course for up to 10 delegates, we run this course specifically when requested rather than having scheduled open dates. This is a classroom based course, which can be conducted at one of our centres, or at your site, if preferred.

E-Learning
This is an online course that you can do at your own pace, you have 6 months to complete it from your initial registration. We need some personal information from you to create an account on the IPAF system, you’ll get an email from IPAF to activate and access your training module. Once completed, we can then generate a certificate for you from the IPAF system. As this is e-learning, we can register you for this course at any time.

IPAF Demonstrator
This is the next step in the IPAF Operator learning, delegates can only add the Demonstrator to their licence if they already hold the IPAF PAL card (standard MEWP card).

This course trains a demonstrator to familiarise operators with their responsibilities and to demonstrate pre-operational and safe operating procedures, and the limitations of MEWPs.

This course is only scheduled when we get specific requests, to find out more information, please contact a member of the team.

IPAF Load/Unload
Loading, transportation, and unloading of plant machinery are vital logistical activities across many industries including powered access and construction. However, analysis of accident data reveals too many people are injured during the process of these activities. IPAF’s Safe Loading & Unloading course examines how these accidents occur and critically, how to prevent them to ensure safe and effective best practice.

The course incorporates a highly interactive theory element followed by an short test, and a focus on practical training with assessment of hands-on skills.

Anyone who will be loading or unloading heavy plant machinery including MEWPS, dumpers, excavators, telehandlers etc. Applicants must hold a current PAL Card or MEWP operator licence.

This course is only scheduled when we get specific requests, to find out more information, please contact a member of the team.

Course Dates

Open 3A &3B courses are very popular, and we don’t always manage to upload all our dates to the system due to how quickly course availability can change, so please do contact us to check the latest dates and spaces.
