We offer a range of Harness training at Barry Training Services, click through the tabs below to find the right course for you;
This is a generic half day course that covers the Safe Use, Inspection and Storage of Safety Harnesses and Fall Arrest. It is a generic course that covers Harness use in all areas.
This course has been specifically designed by IPAF as an awareness course to help give people an understanding of who would need a harness and when, it is specifically aimed at the use in MEWPs (please note this course is not for anyone who actually needs to wear a Harness, but would be the base training they would need to complete before moving onto the User course).
This course has been designed by IPAF specifically for those who are using a Harness when in a MEWP. It is specific to use in MEWPs and not a generic harness course.
Delegates who need the Harness User first have to complete the Harness Awareness.
This course is for anyone who is responsible for carrying out the 6 monthly inspections on Harnesses.
We can offer 2 types of certification for this course, IPAF accredited or our own BTS certification.
If IPAF accredited is required, please note you have to complete both the Harness Awareness & Harness User course first.
If a BTS certificate is required, we would expect delegates to have already completed a standard Harness course first, but can include that on the Inspection course if needed.
Harness & Fall Arrest
This is the most popular Harness course we offer at BTS.
It is a half day course (roughly 3.5 hours) and can be combined with another half day course, for example Safe Working at Height.

Harness Awareness
This IPAF accredited course has been designed to help people understand when a Harness is needed for use in a MEWP. It is a theory-only module designed for managers, planners, and safety professionals who do not physically wear a harness but must oversee their safe use.
This course can be completed online, or in person, depending on your preference.
It is the first stage in IPAF Harness training, so anyone wishing to complete the Harness User and then Inspection course would need to do this first.
Online Training
This course is available as an e-learning module, delegates are registered onto the IPAF system and can then complete the training at their own pace, once successfully completed they will be issued with an IPAF Harness Awareness certificate valid for 5 years.
Classroom Training
This course is available as a face to face course, it is a half day course that can be delivered at one of our centres, or on your own site, if preferred.
The face to face option could be the better route if you are looking to progress onto other IPAF Harness courses, as they can be combined together and delivered on the same day, reducing your overall costs.
Harness User
This IPAF Accredited course has been designed for those who are using a Harness in a MEWP.
Delegates will need to have completed the IPAF Harness Awareness course in order to complete the Harness User.
The Harness User is a half day course as a stand alone module, but it can also be combined while attending your IPAF MEWP Training (delegates would need to complete their Harness Awareness Training online prior for this option).
The course involves a practical assessment, including pre-use checks and fitting of the Harness & Lanyard.
This is the 2nd step in the IPAF Harness trianing available, and would be required before you can progress onto the Harness Inspection course.
Harness Inspection
This is the 3rd stage of IPAF Harness training, and has been designed for those who are responsible for carrying out the 6 monthly inspections on Harness & Lanyards.
Delegates would have to have completed and passed both the Harness Awareness & Harness User before they can complete the inspection course.
The duration of this course will depend on what you need to do, you can complete all 3 stages as a 1 day combined course, however if you have already completed the other Harness courses, then the Inspection is a half day course.
In addition to the IPAF Harness Inspection course available, we also offer our own BTS version, for this course delegates would not have to complete the Harness Awareness or User, but we would expect delegates to have completed a standard Harness course previously (if not we can include that in the Inspection course).
Due to the nature of this course and the varying ways in which it can be run, it is worth speaking to a member of the team to discuss the best options for you.
Training Location
We deliver the course at both of our offices, Barry & Baglan, Port Talbot. We are also licensed to deliver the training at customers’ sites & have travelled around the United Kingdom & Europe to deliver this training.
